This past weekend I was asked to create a cheese and charcuterie display for UCI Mind (Memory Impairments and Neurological Disorders) while they held their 2nd annual Wine Launch Party. Prior to this event I had no idea what UCI Mind was but was fascinated to listen to the efforts they have made and hopeful goals for the future of neurological disease.... a future with a cure.
Nowadays it seems as if we all know of someone close to us who suffers from Alzheimer's Disease, Huntington's Disease or Dementia. For me personally, I was reminded of my father's family history and their long battles with Huntington's Disease through the generations. I thought of my mother's grandmother and uncle who both suffered through Alzheimer's and ultimately perished because of it. It affects us all and it is reassuring to know that there are organizations out there focused on gathering the funding, doing the leg work and research to move science forward and find a cure.
UCI Mind is a wonderful collaborative group of people, researchers and doctors doing amazing work. Find out more about them on their website here.
