An Entourage to Envy

This year was a fun one!


My festivities started the week before when my husband and I attended the annual Halloween Haunt at Doheny State Beach with our nephews. The 5 year old decided that everyone was going to be Batman characters this year and he promptly assigned several of us our roles. He was going to be...wait for it...Batman. His brother, 3 years younger, was going to be Robin. Dad was the Riddler and Mom was to be Catwoman. I was given the task of dressing up like Batgirl and my husband, Scarecrow. It was a nice opportunity to spend the evening with them since I knew I wouldn't be able to trick or treat with them this year due to the food prep for a catered dinner I was working on November 1st.


Dia de Los Cupcakes

On Saturday morning before my cooking and prep for Sunday really kicked in to high gear I helped a close friend of mine celebrate her birthday and the holiday by making her cupcakes for a Dia de Los Muertos party/Birthday party she was going to later that night. It had been a while since I played with cake design so working together to decide on a look for her dessert felt like a fresh jump in the creativity pool. We landed on red velvet cupcakes with buttercream frosting and bold roses with dark chocolate skull toppers. She purchased these oh-so-cute skeleton silicone cupcake holders and asked me to decorate the tops of the skulls with brightly colored florals and greenery. The execution and creative part was up to me!

I think they turned out pretty darn cute. I was told they were going to be set up around an altar with candles, decorative skulls, crosses, flowers and pictures of the party-goers loved ones that had passed on. How neat is that!? Kinda creepy, cool, right?

The next morning I received this text:

"Thank you so much! You made my day, you're awesome! Everyone LOVED THE CUPCAKES!"
